Concierge:
According to the concierge there is a lot of vandalism on school: in the toilet, in the corridor, in the library and they make the walls and the floor dirty.
If they do this they’ve got to go to Mr. Becke (the man of the punishment room) and they have to come to school from 8:30 till 16:05 each day for a whole school week. And if they repeat they risk suspension.
He thinks they do vandalism because they’re bored.
If students have something to do, they don’t have time for vandalism.
The Police:
Vandalism is of all places. In cities it happens more often. Most vandalism is around new years eve. Most people who do vandalism have a low education.
The police see vandalism pretty often. But sometimes we don’t know who did it. Then we have to find out. We often see damaged cars as a form of vandalism. Often the owners of the cars solve the matter with the culprit themselves. Then the police is not involved.
There are different kinds of punishment for vandalism. The worst one is 2 years imprisonment. But most often the culprit has to pay for the damage or gets a community service.
The penalty for spraying graffiti can vary:if you are between 12 and 18 years of age you have to serve in the community and you have to pay the costs for cleaning the wall. It also depends what kind of wall is painted.
About once per week a person is being arrested for vandalism. Often after someone has been caught in the act. This is different for graffiti.
There is also vandalism done by gangs. In this case the police starts talking to the gang members. There are special policemen trained to talk to gang members.
Adults:
Adults think there is vandalism but not that much. Examples are: demolishing benches and toilets etc.
Adults think there is pretty much graffiti in cities, along highways and at train stations.
They don’t bother much about vandalism as long as it is not in their neighbourhood. Though they think vandalism is nonsense: why should you do it?
They don’t see people doing vandalism.
They say vandalism and spraying graffiti have to be solved by the offenders.
If their own children would do vandalism they would be punished severely.
Children:
Children think there is not that much vandalism around their schools.
Vandalism done by students is of all times.
The kind of vandalism they do are: fireworks, painting nasty texts on benches etc.
Also other people do vandalism, but they don’t see them do it.
Their friends don’t actually want to spray graffiti.
They disapprove people destroying the possessions of others.
